Living the Country Life My Way
I was born in a little town in Virginia called Paint Bank. I met my husband, who was from another county the year I graduated from High School, and we married the following year. We moved into New Castle during the spring of that year, and we had our first child, a son, the summer of the following year. Our daughter was born four years later. I was a stay-at-home mom until both kids were finishing high school.
We have two of the smartest kids in the world and they are now 45 and 49 with kids of their own. We have two gorgeous grandchildren, our granddaughter just turned 25 and has been teaching school for two and a half years and a grandson that just turned six and is already a computer/electronic wizard.
We own a 500+ acre farm in Craig County, Virginia. We run about 75 beef cattle and 30 chickens which keep me busy, along with the gardening and three dogs that we love to coon hunt with. Two are hounds and one is a Norwegian elkhound that is my spoiled rotten child now!!!
Hubby built me a greenhouse three years ago and I love working in it every spring and summer. Gardening is a passion next to canning and preserving everything! I’ve learned a lot working in that 10 x 12 space.
I love to cook, read, crochet, quilt, write, hunt, and everything farming but love my family more than the world itself!!!
I worked in the insurance industry for 17 years and then four years at VT before I retired home to the farm and been in heaven ever since.
This blog is just a little fun I enjoy writing about our family, our farm and hard work that keeps us going. There is something to do every day and it’s been in the family for two centuries. Imagine if you will just the fencing alone on 500 acres that has fencing over fifty years old. That’s just one thing that keeps us busy.
Our home was built by my husbands ancestors and is a two story farmhouse which I love taking care of.
All of this will be part of the blogging I will do as much as time allows.
